How I turned this, into a camper van

This is my 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Tour. Her name is Destiny and she has been converted it into a camper van. This site is about my adventures and journey into van life.

I’ve always loved the outdoors. Washington State is one of the most beautiful places in the United States and a great place to become acquainted with the outdoors.

My CamperVan

Destiny

This is the my 2021 van conversion. Fully off-grid, 200 watt solar, Maxxfann, custom roof rack, security, entertainment center, refrigerator, kitchen, awning, folding bed and etc.

Adventures

This is my camping partner. His name is Ollie. Ollie loves the outdoors and in a doggy way he tries to be helpful.

My van life

Media Center

My media center is a small computer with Calibre-ebook library for managing books and Plex for my video and audio library. The screen collapses, rotates left, right, up and down.

My van life

Kitchen

My kitchen. The first kitchen was huge; a full cabinet. The 2021 van mod made the sink much smaller.  I have a working sink, toilet, room for cooking. Cup holder, recharge stations and media center connections.

My van life

Solar Power

I built a custom roof rack, bought two 100 watt mono solar panels, and wiring accessories to connect everything.

Wiring

I created two controller boards. One controls the solar system and the other the manages power to the various areas of the van.

My van life

Bathroom

My bathroom is a simple portable toilet. I find it extremely useful. I build a rolling cart to set the toilet on. A locking rod keeps it in place when driving.

My van life

Bed

This is my 2021 bench & bed. Wheels under the front section allows for the bed to be turned into a bench which hold 4 to 6 people. 3 in the front and 3 in the back.

My van life

Front Storage

I have two deep locking drawers in the front of the bed. The drawers are a little under 3.5 feet long.

My van life

Back Storage

The back drawer and stowaway area are used for non-emergency items, hiking equipment, stove, gas, generator, etc.

My van life

Maxx Fan

I bought a maxx fan in 2021 to cool the van off when the temperatures get hot. Now when I sit in the sun to charge my batteries, I can keep the inside of the van cooler.

My van life

Awning

I upgraded my awning in 2021. I built a custom roof rack so that this giant awning would have support.

Nice to haves

Fold-able camping stove works great with charcoals or firewood. I have to bring the dog. Ollie will not let me leave without him. Cooking breakfast.

That chair sits really low to the ground and makes cooking comfortable.

My van life

Power Station

I have 3 power stations. Left and right side of the van. Plus a Jackery 240 watt for portability. Power from this station above also provides power to the awning.

My van life

Alternative Power

Monocrystalline solar panels are great with overcast skies. Washington State has lots of overcast skies. A Jackery power station, Shore power and a propane generator.

Lighting

I have several types of lighting in my van. Reading lights, Kitchen, headliner, safety lights, drawer lights, and security lights.

Camp Kitchen

I carried lots of folding tables in my van. Now I just carry this. The center table comes with a propane stove shield to block wind.
